Keidje Torres Lima, known professionally as Valete, and born on November 14, 1981, in Portugal, is a rapper. He began his music career in 1997 as part of the group Canal 115, which was signed by Horizontal Records. Valete released mix-tapes launched by DJs like Bomberjack and Cruzfader before taking a break to pursue studies in Communication Sciences at Universidade Independente. Valete returned to music with his debut album Educação Visual in 2002, showcasing his lyrical talent with elaborate rhymes and anti-capitalist overtones. His second album, Serviço Público (2006), was named one of the best Portuguese hip hop albums of 2006 by critics and selected as the second best national album by listeners of the Hip Hop radio show Suburbano on Coimbra's university radio, RUC. Valete was also notably recognized for his political lyrics and has collaborated with various artists, including Sam the Kid and Azagaia.
