Tumsa, a Latvian rock band formed in 1991, originated from Liepaja. The group was founded by bassist Jānis Daugalis and initially gained recognition through local concerts before expanding their reach across Latvia. Their breakthrough came in 1998 when they won the Liepājas dzintars contest and released their debut album Putni. Following this, Tumsa maintained a consistent release schedule, producing albums approximately every two years until 2008 including Katram savu Atlantīdu (2000), Nesaprasto cilvēku zemē (2001), and Spēlējot debesis (2002). In January 2011, lead vocalist Mārtiņš Freimanis passed away due to an illness. After his death, Kārlis Būmeisters briefly took over as vocalist but was later replaced by Valters Frīdenbergs. The band's seventh album, Suns, was released in 2008.
