Judith Eyer Blegen, an American soprano born on April 27, 1941 in Fayette County, Kentucky, began her musical journey with violin lessons and later voice training. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and made her operatic debut as Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1965. Blegen's career took off with notable performances including Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande in Spoleto, Italy, and roles at the Vienna State Opera and Santa Fe Opera. Her debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera came in 1970 as Papagena in The Magic Flute, where she performed over 200 times across various roles. Blegen's discography also included notable recordings such as Puccini’s La bohème with Montserrat Caballé, Plácido Domingo, and Sir Georg Solti, and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. She retired from the stage in 1991.
