Abhijit Pohankar, born on June 29, 1975, in Mumbai, India, was an Indian classical instrumentalist known for his keyboard playing. The grandson of Susheela Pohankar and son of vocalist Ajay Pohankar, Abhijit initially trained under santoor player Shivkumar Sharma. He began his career playing classical music on the keyboard before venturing into world music and fusion genres. His breakthrough album was Piya Bawari (2002), a collaboration with his father that blended classical music with lounge elements. Notable projects include Panch Tatva and Urban Sufis, where he experimented with Sufi music and electronica. Pohankar collaborated with various artists such as Ghulam Ali, Hariharan, and Vishwamohan Bhatt, and composed the title track for the 2003 film Boom. Other releases include Thumri Funk and Masters of Fusion: A Definitive Collection in 2012.
