Negative FX, a hardcore punk band from Boston, was formed in 1981 by Jack Kelly, Pat Ratferty, Rich Collins, and Dave Brown. The group gained notoriety for their role in the development of the straight edge scene in Boston. Their brief career involved six concerts, including a notable one as the opening act for Mission of Burma's final show, which ended in a riot. After their disbandment, Negative FX released their self-titled debut album in 1985 through Taang Records. The band's music was characterized by fast hardcore and thrashcore elements, with Jack Kelly's rapid vocals and politically charged lyrics focusing on themes like unity within the hardcore scene, the Cold War, nuclear threats, and police brutality.
