Philipp Gerschlauer, born on September 30, 1986, in Lich, Germany, is a German saxophonist and composer. He started playing saxophone at seven and piano at ten. From 2003 to 2007, he studied classical saxophone at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Gerschlauer's career included memberships in ensembles like the Hessian State Youth Jazz Orchestra and the European Jazz Orchestra. In 2017, he released Mikrojazz (Neue Expressionistische Musik) with David Fiuczynski, which was ranked number 2 on the New York City Jazz Record's list of Best Jazz Albums of 2017. Gerschlauer has also explored unique musical techniques, such as playing saxophone while simultaneously accompanying himself on the organ, leading to the release of Celestial Church Music in 2019.
