El Lobo y la Sociedad Privada is a Peruvian cumbia group founded in 1994 in Tingo María, Huánuco, by singer and musical director José Luis Arroyo, who first launched the project under the name Internacional Privados de Tingo María. The act broke through in the 1990s with “No hay felicidad” and built a wider national following through radio exposure, Lima appearances, and a repertoire that later came to include songs such as “Si te vas, ¿qué haré?,” “Júrame,” “Tu jurastes amarme,” “Pañuelo de lágrimas,” and “Llorarás Igual Que Yo.” In the 2010s, the group moved into a steady album cycle with releases including Luciérnaga in 2013, Loco por ti in 2014, Sin ti no puedo vivir in 2015, Perdóname Madre in 2016, and the trio of 2017 albums Por Última Vez, Sabor a Cumbia, and El Romántico, followed by Desierto in 2018 and Necesito un Amor in 2019. That run continued in 2020 with Te Tengo Que Olvidar, Trago Amargo, Mujer de la Noche, and Lloras por Mi, and in 2021 with Me Faltas Tú. More recent releases have kept the catalog active, including the 2024 compilation 10 Éxitos de Oro, music tied to La cumbia de Vaguito, the 2025 singles “Quiéreme,” “Sufrimiento y Dolor,” and “Dolor y Lágrimas (Acoustic),” and the 2026 singles “A Qué Volviste,” “Nostalgia (Acoustic),” and “La Cumbia de la Alegría,” alongside ongoing concert activity in Peru.
