America Pop, a Bolivian band from Viacha, La Paz, was formed in 1988 when Bernardo Mamani and Gastón Sosa united to create tropical music. The group's name reflects their ambition to reach all sectors of the American continent with their music. America Pop released their first EP in 1988 and their debut full-length album Tropical in 1990. Their third release, Te conquistaré, in 1992, solidified their status as a leading act in Bolivian cumbia romántica, featuring the hit single "Sol negro". In 1998, they released another popular track, "Vuela mariposa", which earned them gold and platinum certifications in Bolivia. The band toured extensively across Latin America, performing in Argentina, Peru, and Chile, and shared stages with notable acts such as Ráfaga, Gilda, and Sombras. Gastón Sosa served as the vocalist and composer during their most influential period.
