Phantasm, a viol consort, was founded in 1994 by Laurence Dreyfus, consisting of Laurence Dreyfus, Jonathan Manson, Markku Luolajan-Mikkola, Emilia Benjamin, Heidi Gröger, Mikko Perkola, and Wendy Gillespie. The group gained international recognition when their debut CD won the Gramophone Award for Best Baroque Instrumental Recording of 1997. Based initially in the United Kingdom and later relocating to Germany in 2016, Phantasm has released numerous recordings and performed at prestigious venues worldwide. Notable performances include appearances at Oxford University's Holywell Music Room, Magdalen College, the Barcelona Early Music Festival, and the Hong Kong International Music Festival. Their discography includes J.S. Bach: Art of Fugue (1998), William Byrd’s Complete Consort Music (2011), and Dowland: Lachrimae or Seven Tears (2016). Phantasm has also won the Gramophone Award for Early Music in 2004.
