AKMU, aka Akdong Musician, comprises South Korean brother and sister Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun. They came into the public consciousness under the name Akdong Musician in 2012 after winning the second series of the TV talent show K-pop Stars. They capitalized on this success with the single "You Are Attractive," which went straight to number 1 on the local Gaon Music Chart. The group's first published album, Play, arrived in 2013, with all the songs being composed by Lee Chan-hyuk. After issuing the EP Spring in 2016 and their sophomore effort Winter in 2017, both of which made it to the local Top 10, Chan-hyuk paused the continuing success of the duo as he was called into the Republic of Korea Marine Corps for his national service. Two years later, the brother and sister were reunited and announced that they would perform going forward as AKMU. Sailing, their third full-length album, came out in 2019 and climbed to number 4 on the Circle Albums Chart. It was followed in 2021 by the extended play Next Episode, a chill downtempo affair that went to number 6 in South Korea. In 2023, the duo issued the standalone single "Love Lee," reaching number 14 in the local singles chart. Their third EP, Love Episode was released on June 3, 2024, including the lead single "Hero", continuing AKMU's Episode series. On April 7, 2026, AKMU released their fourth studio album FLOWERING (개화), marking their first full-length release after departing from YG Entertainment.
