Georges Cantournet, an accordionist from France's Massif central region, was born in 1918. His parents hailed from the Cantal department, and he was the nephew of Martin Cayla, a prominent figure in Parisian Auvergnat folklore. Cantournet's repertoire focused on Auvergnat and Limousin folk music, performing with an orchestra that included a cabrétaire and himself playing the cabrette. In the 1940s and 1950s, he recorded numerous albums. Notable compositions included "Joyeuse pastourelle" and "La Valse des chasseurs". He died on October 17, 1961, at the age of 43. His music was later reissued in collections such as Georges Cantournet et son orchestre régional (2007) and Danse et chants d'auvergne (2008).
