Eple Trio, a Norwegian jazz trio, was formed in 2004 at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. The group initially consisted of graduate students and quickly gained traction with their debut album Made This in 2007. Their subsequent releases, including The Widening Sphere of Influence (2008), In the Clearing / In the Cavern (2010), and Universal Cycle (2014), solidified their reputation within the modern piano trio genre. The trio, comprising Andreas Ulvo on piano, Sigurd Hole on upright bass, and Jonas Howden Sjøvaag on drums, is known for blending jazz with elements of Baroque music and Scandinavian traditional music. They have collaborated with notable Norwegian musicians such as Karl Seglem, Jon Eberson, and Mathias Eick. Extensive touring in Europe and Asia has further enriched their dynamic improvisation style. Their 2017 album 5 and live recording Ghosts (Live, Kulturkirken Jakob) (2020) continued to showcase their evolving sound.
