Shava is a Finnish band formed in 2010 that is known for creating the genre "Suomibhangra," a fusion of Finnish-language lyrics and Punjabi bhangra music. The group’s lineup includes lead vocalist and keyboardist Kiureli Sammallahti, guitarist Valtteri Bruun, bassist Lauri Salokoski, drummer Jussi Miettola, and percussionist Sami Rönkä. The band released its first single, “Päälliköt on voittamattomii/Suomenmaa”, in 2009 through the Suomen bhangrayhdistys ry label. Their debut studio album, Betoninen kotimaani, was released on October 13, 2010. In 2013, the ensemble released the single “Onkimiehen bhangra”. Shava gained broader national exposure in 2015 when they competed in the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) with the song “Ostarilla”. This track was subsequently included on their second full-length album, Langaton yhteys, released that same year. The band has established an international presence by touring throughout Europe, North America, and Asia, with concerts in nations such as India, Canada, the United States, Iceland, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
