After rising to prominence as member of the K-pop girl band Wonder Girls the South Korean singing star Sunmi took the unusual step of temporarily leaving the pop business in order to complete her university studies. After a three-year absence from the music scene she successfully relaunched her career in 2013, this time as a solo artist. Her debut single '24 Hours' reached the top three in the Asian charts and was soon followed up by the similarly successful EP 'Full Moon', the two releases collectively selling more than 1,500,000 units.

In 2015, it was announced that Sunmi would be resuming her role in Wonder Girls with the band reinventing themselves as instrumentalists featuring Sunmi on bass. The reincarnation of the band failed to make an impression on K-pop audiences and after two albums the group were unable to negotiate a fresh contract and Sunmi resumed her solo career. After signing a new management and recording deal with Makeus Entertainment she joined a stable of well-known South Korean artists which included Park Won and Urban Zapaka. With a revamped image and some new songs Sunmi found herself once again at the top of the Korean charts with the tracks 'Gashina' and 'Heroine'.
