The Yoshida Brothers, Ryōichirō Yoshida and Kenichi Yoshida, were born in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, and began playing the shamisen at age five under Koka Adachi, later studying Tsugaru‑jamisen with Takashi Sasaki. They debuted in 1999 with the album いぶき (later released internationally as Ibuki), which sold over 100,000 copies and introduced them to a Japanese audience, followed by MOVE in 2000 and Soulful in 2002, all issued on Domo Records. The duo expanded their discography with Yoshida Brothers (2003), Yoshida Brothers II (2004), Yoshida Brothers III (2006), Hishou (2007), Prism (2009), Ibuki (2010), Horizon (2014), and The Yoshida Brothers: 20th Anniversary from Debut (2020), while also releasing singles such as "RISING" (2005) and "criminal" (2016). Their music gained international exposure through the Nintendo Wii commercial featuring "Kodo (Inside the Sun Remix)" in 2006, the Japanese dub of Kubo and the Two Strings featuring "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and a remix for Disney’s Nightmare Revisited (2008). Collaborations included work with Daishi Dance on "Renovation" (2009) and participation in various tribute projects. The brothers achieved chart success in Japan, with their early releases entering the Top 100, and have been recognized for blending traditional Tsugaru‑jamisen with Western and electronic elements, solidifying their place in contemporary world music.
