Maya Jupiter, born Melissha Martinez on December 21, 1978, in La Paz, Mexico, is a Mexican-Australian singer-songwriter. Raised in Australia from the age of one, she was later introduced to the Australian hip-hop scene in 1998. Jupiter released her debut single "Ordinary Night / The Artess" in 2001 and her first album Today in August 2003 on Mother Tongues. She hosted Triple J’s weekly Hip-Hop Show from 2004 to 2008. Jupiter also formed the group Foreign Heights with MC Trey and DJ Nick Toth, releasing their self-titled album Foreign Heights in 2007. The trio was nominated for 'Best Urban Release' at the ARIA Music Awards of 2007 for "Get Yours (Remix)". Jupiter released her second solo album, Maya Jupiter, in 2010, which featured collaborations with Aloe Blacc and members of Quetzal.
