Jimmy Velvet, born Jimmie Tennant in Jacksonville, Florida, was an American singer known for his contributions to rock music during the 1960s. Early in his career, he worked as a manager for Texas-based singer James Mullins before adopting the stage name Jimmy Velvet and releasing his first single"We Belong Together" in 1963, which reached number 75 on the Billboard chart. This breakthrough was followed by other notable singles such as "It's Almost Tomorrow" (1965) and "Take Me Tonight" (1967). Velvet collaborated with arranger Bill Justis and toured extensively from 1973 to 1978 with his band, The Jimmy Velvet Show. He released several albums including A Touch Of Velvet in 1967, which featured some of his hit singles. Velvet's career was championed by TV host Dick Clark, who featured him on American Bandstand multiple times. In addition to his music, Jimmy Velvet operated an Elvis Presley memorabilia museum in Memphis for about twenty years following the death of Elvis Presley.
