Donald Maurice Bryant was born on April 4, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. He began singing in church at age five and later formed a gospel quartet for a high school radio show. In 1960, he penned "I Got to Know" for The 5 Royales and continued writing material for other artists while recording with his group, The Four Kings. His solo album Precious Soul was released in 1969. By the early 1970s, Don Bryant's singing career took a backseat to songwriting at Hi Records, where he co-wrote hits like "I Can't Stand the Rain" with Ann Peebles, whom he married in 1974. In the 2010s, after a hiatus from performing outside of church services, Don Bryant returned to recording with The Bo-Keys, releasing Don’t Give Up on Love in 2017 and You Make Me Feel in 2020, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. On December 26, 2025, Don Bryant died at the age of 83.
