X Plastaz, a Tanzanian hip hop group from Arusha, was founded in 1996. The initial lineup included Ruff and Gsann brothers along with Ziggy from Tanga Region. They began their music career in 1995 while working at a haircutting salon. Their breakthrough came when they were noticed by Bonnie Luv, a record producer from Dar es Salaam, who had them record some singles. In 1998, X Plastaz released "Bamiza", which became one of the most played songs on Tanzanian radios for several weeks. The group's style evolved to include traditional Maasai music after meeting Merege, a Maasai singer, in 1997. This fusion led to hits like "Dunia dudumizi" and "Msimu kwa msimu". In 2004, they released their debut album Maasai Hip Hop under Out Here Records.
