Ann Vriend (born in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian soul, pop, and indie singer-songwriter and pianist based in Edmonton, Alberta. Vriend began piano lessons at age nine and wrote music during high school. Following studies at the University of Alberta and King’s University College, Vriend completed a music program at MacEwan University in 2000. Vriend released a demo in 2000 that received radio play in Western Canada. After winning a songwriting contest, Vriend travelled to Nashville to record the debut album Soul Unravelling (2003). Subsequent recordings include Modes of Transport (2005), When We Were Spies (2008), Love & Other Messes (2011), and For The People In The Mean Time (2014). The single “St. Paul” reached the Top 30 in Toronto and Cologne. Vriend toured Canada, Australia, and Europe, appearing on the programme Spicks and Specks. In 2017, Vriend received the Maple Blues Award for the composition “All That I Can”. Vriend released the album Everybody Matters in 2022.
