SPK was formed in Sydney, Australia in 1978 by Graeme Revell, who served as keyboardist and percussionist. The group’s early work emerged from a collaboration with Neil Hill, and they released a series of 7" singles in 1979, including "No More", "Factory" and "Mekano", which established their experimental industrial sound. In 1980 the band relocated to London, where they recorded their debut album Information Overload Unit (1981) on Side Effects, a release that garnered attention within the early industrial scene. Subsequent releases followed a chronological progression: Leichenschrei (1982), Auto‑Da‑Fé (1983), and Machine Age Voodoo (1984), the latter featuring the single "Junk Funk" (1985) that achieved a modest chart position of number 94 in the UK. The band toured extensively in the United Kingdom and Australia, collaborating with musicians such as Sinan Leong on vocals and Brian Williams on production. SPK disbanded in 1988 after issuing a live album, Oceania…In Performance 1987. After the group’s dissolution, Graeme Revell pursued a career as a film score composer, while the legacy of SPK continued through compilations and the 2004 release of Information Overload Unit on CD.
