Azucena Maizani was an Argentine tango singer and composer. She began her career in 1922 as a chorus girl with a theatrical company and made her professional debut in 1923, at the Teatro Nacional, where she performed “Padre nuestro,” accompanied by the orchestra of Salvador Merino. Maizani quickly rose to prominence, performing in major theaters, on radio, and in early recording sessions that helped establish her as one of the leading female voices in early tango. She collaborated with major figures in Argentine music such as Francisco Canaro and Enrique Pedro Delfino, and was associated with popular tangos of the era including “Silbando” and “Organito de la tarde.” In the early 1930s, she toured Spain and Portugal with the Compañía Argentina de Arte Menor, and also appeared in early Argentine sound films. She died on January 15, 1970, in Buenos Aires.
