Mateusz Smoczyński, born on March 6, 1984, in Warsaw, Poland, is a Polish violinist and composer known for his work across jazz, classical, and world music genres. He studied violin at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under Andrzej Gębski. Smoczyński made his debut in 1999 with Zbigniew Namysłowski's quintet. In 2006, he released Inspirations (2006) with his own quintet, earning him a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture in 2007. He formed New Trio in 2010, releasing Simultaneous Abstractions, which was nominated for a Fryderyk Award. Smoczyński won the 2nd International Zbigniew Seifert Violin Competition in 2016 and was appointed as a professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in 2017.
