The Phenomenauts, formed in 2000 in Oakland, California, were known for blending rock, punk, glam, and new wave with a science fiction theme. Initially known as Space Patrol, the group consisted of Commander Angel Nova, Corporal JoeBot, Major Jimmy Boom, and later added bass player Captain Chreehos to form The Phenomenauts. Their debut album, Rockets And Robots, released in 2002 on Arlington Lab Recordings, gained local acclaim and charted on college stations like KSSU and KALX. They later signed with Springman Records, which remastered and reissued Rockets And Robots. The Phenomenauts are known for their unique live performances, often incorporating special effects and unexpected venues, including uninvited appearances at larger concerts like the Warped Tour. They have also used their music to promote science education, performing at events such as the Bay Area Science Festival and the March for Science. In 2015, they released I'm With Neil, a tribute to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and the public radio program Science Friday.
