Alireza Mashayekhi, born in Tehran, Iran, in 1940, is an Iranian composer and conductor. He graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna before studying electronic and computer music at the Institute of Sonology under Gottfried Michael Koenig in Utrecht, Netherlands. In 1993, Mashayekhi founded the Tehran Contemporary Music Group with pianist Farima Ghavam-Sadri. Two years later, he established the Iranian Orchestra for New Music, which released its first recording in 2002 on Hermes Records. Notable works include Electronic Panorama: prospective 21 siecle (1970) and Persian Electronic Music: Yesterday and Today 1966–2006, a double-disc anthology released by Belgian experimental label Sub Rosa in 2007. Mashayekhi's compositions often blend classical, electronic, and traditional Iranian music elements, reflecting his unique "Meta-X" compositional practice.
