John Sinclair, also known as Yasus Afari, born in 1962 in Saint Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, is a Jamaican dub poet. He initially worked as a repair technician before returning to education at the College of Arts, Science and Technology. His early recording efforts, such as "Anti-Litter Law" (1986), gained traction after collaborating with Garnett Silk on versions like "I Can See Clearly Now". Afari's style blends traditional poetry readings with dancehall music. He toured extensively with Black Uhuru in the mid-1990s and co-headlined the Cayman Music Festival in 2006 alongside Freddie McGregor and Maxi Priest. Notable albums include Rooftop Skanking (1993), a compilation album with various artists, and Public Secret (2013), recorded with his band Dub Vijan. Afari has also contributed as a background vocalist for artists like Everton Blender, General Degree, and Tony Rebel.
