Mareike Wiening, born on August 21, 1987, in Herzogenaurach, Germany, is a jazz drummer and composer. She began playing piano at age five, later switching to flute and then drums at 15. After high school, she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim under Michael Küttner. In 2009, Wiening spent a year as an Erasmus scholar at the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen. Wiening released her debut EP Crosswalk in 2014, followed by her first full-length album, Metropolis Paradise, in 2019. Her subsequent albums include Future Memories (2021) and Reveal (2023). She has collaborated with various artists, including Yngvil Vatn Guttu, Adrian Mears’ Generations Unit, Johannes Ludwig, Christoph Neuhaus, and Clemens Gottwald. Wiening has also performed at notable venues such as Carnegie Hall and Blue Note NYC. In 2022, she became a teacher of jazz drums at the Zurich University of the Arts.
