Jacques Auguste René Podevin, known professionally as Jacques Verrières, born on November 7, 1924, in Verrières-le-Buisson, was a French actor and singer-songwriter. He began his career at age four, singing with his mother in an amateur troupe. In 1952, Verrières won the Grand Prix de la chanson française for interpretation and signed with Pathé Marconi under Pierre Hiégel. His breakthrough came with "Mon Pote Le Gitan", a tribute to Django Reinhardt, which was recorded by several artists, including Yves Montand and Barbara. He released his EP Mon Pot' Le Gitan in 1955. Verrières collaborated with Édith Piaf, performing at Bobino and Olympia, and was accompanied by Joseph Reinhardt for five years. His notable works include "Le Temps D' Edith Et De Django". He passed away on July 17, 2009, in Clamart, France.
