Muluqèn Mèllèssè was an Ethiopian singer and drummer, born in 1954 in Gojjam. At age six, he moved to Addis Ababa with his uncle. In 1966, at the age of twelve, Mèllèssè began performing at nightclubs and in groups founded by nightclub owners, marking the start of his musical career. His first song performed on stage was Enate Sitewoldgne Metchi Amakerchign, followed by his debut vinyl release "Hedetch Alu" in 1972. In 1975, he recorded "Wetetie Mare and Ete Endenesh Gedawo" with the Equator Band. Mèllèssè's notable songs include "Menew Kerefede", "Yeregeme Lebe", and "Nanu Nanu Ney". He was known for his collaborative approach to lyrics, often altering them to suit his style. In the 1980s, Mèllèssè abandoned his music career to join the Pentecostal Church. He died on April 9, 2024, at the age of 70.
