Antonio Alessandro Boncompagno Stradella, also known as Alessandro Stradella, born on April 3, 1639, in Bologna, Italy, was an Italian composer and violinist. By age 24, he had already established himself as a notable composer. Stradella's career flourished with commissions from distinguished poets and aristocrats, leading to over three hundred works across various genres. Notable among these are the serenata La Circe (1668) and the opera Il Trespolo tutore (1679). He eventually settled in Genoa, where he continued composing for local nobility until his untimely death on February 25, 1682. Stradella's influence extended beyond his lifetime, with his works inspiring later composers such as George Frideric Handel and contributing to the development of the concerto grosso format.
