Sharifa Fadel, born Fawqiyya Mahmoud Ahmed Nada on September 27, 1938, in Cairo, Egypt, was a notable Egyptian singer and actress. She began her musical journey under the tutelage of masters of religious music from an early age. Her breakthrough came in the late 1940s with her first acting role in Der Vater (The Father) in 1947. In the 1950s and 1960s, Fadel's musical career flourished with notable songs like "Amāna yā bukra", composed by Muhammad al-Mujiy, and collaborations with esteemed composers such as Munir Murad and Riyad as-Sunbatiy. She became known for blending classical Arabic singing with elements of folk and Western pop music, contributing to the development of the Sha'bi genre. Despite personal tragedies, including the loss of her son during the October War in 1973, she released successful songs like "Umm al-baṭal". She passed away on March 5, 2023.
