Rofo was founded in 1982 in Belgium by Ronny Verrept and Fonny De Wulff, who derived the group name from the first letters of their first names. The duo, both producers and musicians, established an 8‑track studio and began recording electronic tracks that would place them within the synth‑dance and Italo‑disco scenes. Their early releases, including "Flashlight On A Disconight" (1983) and "You've Got To Move It On" (1984), gained traction in the European club circuit and marked the group’s entry into the market. In 1985, the single "I Want You" was issued with vocalist John Sauli, following the departure of original members Ronny Verrept and Peter Vriends after the success of "Flashlight On A Disconight". The breakthrough hit "Rofo's Theme" appeared in 1987, produced by Rob van Eijk and Michiel van der Kuy, and was later reissued in 1997 with new mixes. The album Rofo was released in 1988, and a remixed edition, The Album, followed the same year, featuring updated tracks and mixes. Subsequent releases included "Rofo's Theme 2" (1990) and the 2015 single "Face It" / "Summer Love", both performed by John Sauli and produced by Eddi Mi Rami and Michiel van der Kuy, respectively.
