Relic, a French hip‑hop group from Argenteuil in the Val‑d’Oise, was formed in 1996 by childhood friends Antar and Chodo, later joined by Antar’s cousin Manscaro and DJ Soft. The group began performing at the local MJC and released the limited‑edition 12" "Premier impact" in 1999, followed by the EP Il faut qu’on leur montre in the same year. In 2002, after contributing to the soundtrack of the film Old School, Relic signed with Barclay and released its debut studio album Légende urbaine in 2004, selling 40,000 copies; the single "Just Married" featuring Amine became a summer hit that same year. The group continued to tour extensively across France and collaborated with artists such as Fabe and Don Choa. In 2006, Relic issued its second album Loin des apparences.
