Death Vessel is an American neo-traditional folk ensemble from Providence, Rhode Island, established in 2005 by Joel Thibodeau. Born in Berlin, Germany, Thibodeau founded the group after performing in the band String Builder. The ensemble released its debut studio recording, Stay Close, on North East Indie Records in 2005. Thibodeau performed with a soprano vocal register. In 2006, the band signed with Sub Pop and ATP Recordings, which provided a wider release for the debut album. The ensemble released the recording Nothing Is Precious Enough for Us on August 19, 2008. The group performed with acts including Iron & Wine, Low, José González, and The Books. In 2014, the band released the studio recording Island Intervals, which featured Jónsi on the track “Ilsa Drown”.
