John Moore (born June 23, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American musician, singer, actor, and bandleader best known for his work in blues, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll. He began his career active on the New Orleans R&B scene since his teens, becoming a session man for many hit recordings of the late 1950s and 1960s, including those by Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Lee Dorsey, and Ernie K-Doe. Moore’s band, The Ivories, became a popular fixture in New Orleans, and although he did not achieve widespread national fame under his own name, he gained deep respect locally and among fellow musicians. In 2003, he released Deacon John's Jump Blues: Music From the Film, a concert CD featuring his music. Moore was inducted into the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2008. He performed "God Bless America" at the Inauguration of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal in January 2008.
