Königwerq, a German pop group formed in 2001 by Dania König and Mathias Kiefer, originated in Nordbaden, Germany. After early training at the Mannheimer Popakademie, the band released its debut single "König des Leids" in August 2004, a German cover of Police’s King of Pain, which reached Number one on the SWR3, Radio Regenbogen, and Bayern 3 charts and entered the German Airplay Top 100. In February 2005 the group issued the single "Unschlagbar", which secured the top position on Radio Regenbogen and Hit1, reached Number two on SWR3, and participated in the German Eurovision pre‑selection that March. The self‑titled album Königwerq followed in the summer of 2005. After the departure of several members in late 2005, Dania König, Mathias Kiefer, Tobias Held, and Marius Goldhammer reconstituted the lineup; they released the EP Träum Ich in February 2008. Throughout its career, Königwerq maintained a presence on German radio, with singles such as "Was wäre wenn" (2007) achieving Number one on SWR3. The group’s discography, consisting of two EPs and a self‑titled album, reflects a consistent engagement with pop‑poetry and mainstream German pop.
