Louis Hjulmand, born on July 30, 1932, in Aarhus, Denmark, was a percussionist and composer known for his contributions to modern jazz. He began his career in the jazz scene of his hometown before moving to Copenhagen in 1959, where he accompanied visiting musicians such as Stan Getz, Brew Moore, and Oscar Pettiford. Hjulmand led his own quartet and recorded with notable figures like Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. He also composed music for film and television productions. His discography includes collaborations on albums such as Louis Hjulmand / Oscar Pettiford / Jan Johansson, Trio (1959) and Fontana Presenting: Louis Hjulmand (2006). Hjulmand passed away on December 29, 2008, in Herlev.
