Jorge Sylvester, born in 1954 in Colón, Panama, is a Panamanian jazz saxophonist. At fourteen, he led a salsa group and studied under Euclides Hall and Efrain Castro. Sylvester's career began in Europe in 1966, co-leading a quintet/sextet with Miguel Chastang. In the early 1980s, he moved to the U.S., studying at the State University of New York and participating in Karl Berger’s Creative Music Program under Ornette Coleman. He formed his own quintet and collaborated extensively as a sideman with notable artists. Sylvester's discography includes albums like MusiCollage (1996) and In the Ear of the Beholder (2000). He also worked on several projects with singer Nora McCarthy, including the Conceptual Motion Orchestra and The ACE Collectiv. In 2005, he co-led the quartet Asymmetry with Lucian Ban.
