Aphrodelics, a hip-hop electro group from Austria, was formed in Vienna in 1995 by Mike Ongeri, Igor Kölblinger, Rodney Hunter and George Ogunleye. Their music career began with the release of their debut single “On the Rise” in 1996. Aphrodelics gained significant traction when they released their debut album On the Rise under BMG in 1998, which featured tracks that received airplay on radio and music television channels, notably “Rollin' On Chrome”. The group chose to rap in English as a means of communication for young people from various immigrant communities in their region and to transcend geographical boundaries. In 2001, Aphrodelics released their second album Enormis. They also contributed the track “Rollin’ On Chrome” to the compilation Fm4 Soundselection 03 in 1998. Their music reflected their multicultural background and helped define a distinctive segment of Austria’s late-1990s hip-hop landscape.
