Kilian Vergara Ulloa, also known as Defra, was born on February 20, 1990, in Rancagua, Chile. From a very young age, Kilian showed a keen interest in music, and at the age of 10, he began experimenting with a guitar he found at his uncle's house. His father, Marco Vergara, noticed his musical inclination and expressed his desire to see him become a musician in the future.
At the age of 14, Kilian started writing his first songs and became interested in urban music, a genre in which he has excelled as a singer, songwriter, and music producer. Throughout his career, Kilian went through several musical groups that helped shape and nurture his talent.
At the age of 16, on his birthday, Kilian had a profound encounter with Jesus that touched his heart. The concept of "forgiveness" and what it entails when guided by God had a transformative effect on his life. From that moment on, Kilian underwent a radical change in his life, transforming both his lyrics and the content of his music.
For a long time, God confirmed his calling and purpose through random encounters with people he didn't know, urging and motivating him to follow Christ no matter what. One of his life's purposes became to uplift and guide young people who feel lost in the midst of society. From that point, Kilian maturely reaffirmed his purpose in music, embracing his calling and mission with even greater determination.
In 2015, at the age of 25, Kilian released his first solo album titled "El Momento" – The Prelude to 'Diferente.' He wrote, produced, mixed, and mastered this album himself, consisting of 10 songs that marked the beginning of his solo career. Three years later, in 2018, he released his second album, "Diferente," showcasing his versatility and growth as an artist. The album included 16 songs, including tracks like "Vaivén," "Quedate," "Todo Cambio," and others.
Throughout his career, Kilian has worked on significant collaborations with recognized urban music artists such as Manny Montes, Ander Bock, Mikey A, Bengie, Musiko, among others. Moreover, he has been a staunch advocate and promoter of the Christian faith, focusing his aim on bringing all listeners closer to Christ.
In 2020, he released his third production titled "Sinergia Gold Edition," featuring 12 songs of different styles. In March 2022, he launched the second installment titled "Sinergia Platinum Edition." Subsequently, in November of the same year, Kilian released an EP titled "From Chile" alongside Wolandia and Rapacortes, both representing the Chilean music scene.
Defra has stood out in the music industry for his talent, versatility, and for being an independent and self-reliant artist in his creative and production process. His strong commitment to his Christian faith and his desire to share that message through his music make him a unique artist with a profound purpose.
