Engineers is a British shoegaze and dream‑pop group formed in London in 2003 by bassist‑guitarist‑keyboardist Mark Peters, singer‑guitarist Simon Phipps, bassist‑guitarist Dan MacBean, and drummer Andrew Sweeney. The band’s first release was the single "Home" in April 2004, followed by the mini‑album Folly in September 2004, which featured a cover of Tim Hardin’s "If I Were a Carpenter" and the original track "Forgiveness". Their self‑titled debut album Engineers was issued on 7 March 2005 by Echo Records. In 2008, the band’s lineup changed when MacBean and Sweeney departed; they were replaced by bassist/vocalist Daniel Land, drummer Matthew Linley, and keyboardist Ulrich Schnauss. The second album, Three Fact Fader, launched on 6 July 2009 under Kscope. A third studio effort, In Praise of More, followed on 27 September 2010, and the fourth album, Always Returning, arrived on 11 August 2014. Throughout their career, Engineers secured a UK chart position of Number 48 for "Forgiveness" and saw "Home" adopted as the theme for the fourth season of the U.S. series Big Love in 2010. The group released Pictobug in 2020.
