Michael Schade, born on January 23, 1965, in Geneva, is a Canadian operatic tenor. He attended St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, the University of Western Ontario, and earned his master's degree from the Curtis Institute of Music. Schade began his career with notable opera companies such as the Canadian Opera Company and the Vienna State Opera. His recording of the St. Matthew Passion (2001), with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. Schade has also been recognized with the Austrian title of Kammersänger in March 2007 and was appointed as an officer in the Order of Canada in 2016. He has served as the artistic director of The Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk and holds a professorship at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
