Scared of Chaka was a New Mexico-based American punk rock band formed in 1993. The group consisted of guitarist/vocalist David Yanul Hernandez, bass guitarist Dameon Waggoner, and drummer Jeff Jones, who was later replaced by Ron Skrasek. Scared of Chaka began their career with a mix of garage and pop-punk, influenced by local acts like the Drags. Their first releases included Hutch Brown Sayngwich (1995) and Scared of Chaka (1996), both on 702 Records. The band continued to release albums such as the EP How to Lose (1998) and their breakthrough album, Tired of You (1999). Following the 2001 release of Crossing with Switchblades, Scared of Chaka disbanded. The band reunited briefly in 2008 for several shows and released "Bated Breath" in 2024, their first recording in over two decades.
