Grand Pianoramax, an experimental keyboard and drums band conceived by Leo Tardin, was formed in 2004 in New York. The group initially featured Tardin alongside drummer Jojo Mayer on their self-titled debut album released in 2005. Their second album, The Biggest Piano in Town, was released in 2008 with expanded personnel including guest vocals and raps from Mike Ladd and Black Cracker. This period also saw the band touring extensively, opening for Maceo Parker and performing at notable festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival. The third album, Smooth Danger, was recorded across multiple cities and released in 2011, featuring collaborations with Karsh Kale on tabla. Following this, Grand Pianoramax has continued to release albums, including Soundwave in 2016.
