Antoine Gerard Theodore "Toon" Hermans, born in 1916 in Sittard, Netherlands, was a singer and comedian. He began performing in the 1930s, achieving local fame as a comedian during the post-war decades. By the 1950s and 1960s, Hermans was considered one of the "Great Three" of Dutch cabaret alongside Wim Sonneveld and Wim Kan. His one-man shows featured humorous stories from his youth in Limburg, interspersed with simple, charming songs about life and love. Notable for his disarmingly genuine humor, Hermans' career spanned decades, including a significant television success in 1967 when his one-man show was watched by six million viewers—half the population of the Netherlands at that time. His song "Vierentwintig rozen" became a signature piece.
