Magna Carda, an American hip hop group from Austin, Texas, was formed in 2011 at St. Edward's University by keyboardist/producer Dougie Do and rapper Megz Kelli. The group initially gained traction with their early projects Creature Creative (2012) and Shoe String Theory (2013). Their breakthrough came with the release of their first major mixtape, Van Geaux, in January 2014. Magna Carda rose to prominence after performing at the inaugural X Games in Austin and being featured in a BuzzFeed article titled "40 Songs Proving That Austin, Texas is the Capital of Dope Jams," along with NPR's "Heavy Rotation." The group continued to release notable projects such as Cirqlation (2016), To the Good People (2017), and Somewhere Between (2021). Magna Carda is known for performing with live instrumentation, earning comparisons to groups like The Roots.
