Dance With a Stranger was a Norwegian rock band formed in Bergen in 1984. The group consisted of Frode Alnæs on guitar and vocals, Øivind "Elg" Elgenes on vocals, Bjørn Jenssen on drums, and Yngve Moe on bass. They released their debut album Dance With A Stranger in 1987, marking the beginning of a successful career. The band's breakthrough came with the release of Atmosphere in 1991, which earned them the prestigious Spellemannprisen award for Spellemann of the Year. This recognition solidified their status in the Norwegian music scene and paved the way for further success.
Their subsequent albums included TO (1992), Look What You've Done (1994), and Happy Sounds (1998). Despite disbanding in 1994, Dance With a Stranger reunited for several concerts and released compilation albums. In 2007, they released the double compilation album Everyone Needs A Friend - The Very Best Of, which included three new songs and previously unreleased soundtracks from the 1980s, as well as highlights from their many releases. The band's activities were temporarily halted from 2002 to 2005, but resumed with a farewell tour in 2014 following the death of bassist Yngve Moe. In 2013, bassist Yngve Moe died in an accident. The band still completed their farewell tour in 2014, now joined by Per Mathisen on bass.
