British rock band Thunderclap Newman, formed in 1969, was created by Pete Townshend of The Who and Kit Lambert to showcase the talents of John "Speedy" Keen, Jimmy McCulloch, and Andy "Thunderclap" Newman. The band's breakthrough came with their debut single "Something in the Air", which reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in 1969. This song, written by Keen, was produced by Townshend under the pseudonym Bijou Drains and featured contributions from Newman on piano and McCulloch on guitar. The band's subsequent album Hollywood Dream, released in October 1970, included additional singles such as "Accidents", "The Reason" and "Wild Country". Thunderclap Newman toured extensively in support of Deep Purple and made appearances on television programs like Top of the Pops and Beat-Club. Despite their initial success, the band disbanded in April 1971 due to internal differences. In 2010, a new lineup featuring Andy "Thunderclap" Newman released an album titled Beyond Hollywood, marking a brief revival before disbanding again in 2012.
