Barbi & the Kens, a new wave music project led by Bobby Orlando, emerged in the United States during the 1980s. The group's breakthrough came with their debut release, Mini LP, released in 1980. Their first notable single "Just A Gigolo" (1980) peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Club Play charts in 1981. Due to a lawsuit threat from Mattel over the use of the name Barbie and the Kens, the group changed their name to Malibu. Under this new moniker, they continued releasing music, including the song "Goin' Cruisin'" (1983) and "Lust or Love" (1986).
