Nylon was formed in 2004 in Iceland by Alma Guðmundsdóttir, Steinunn Þóra Camilla Sigurðardóttir, and Klara Ósk Elíasdóttir, who later added Emilia Björg. The trio debuted with the single "Lög Unga Fólksins" in April 2004, which entered the Icelandic charts at Number 1. In October 2004 the group released their debut studio album 100 % Nylon, which also topped the national charts. In 2005 they issued Góðir Hlutir, again debuting at Number 1, and a compilation Best Af in 2007 that compiled earlier hits and included the chart‑topping single "Holiday" (April 2007). In 2006 the band released the single "Closer" (23 October 2006) and the English‑language album Nylon, which reached Number 1 in Iceland but did not break the UK Top 40. The group toured as an opening act for Westlife, Girls Aloud, McFly, and Journey South across the United Kingdom. After Emilia Björg departed in 2007, the group released Best Af as a trio before announcing their split in 2008, citing homesickness for Iceland. In 2023 the band reunited for an unexpected concert at Tónaflóði, announcing a new single.
